This amusing Halloween story is complete with a witch, ghost, vampire, mummy, and bat and is written with a nice rhyming pattern, making it a fun book to read to children。 Excellent book for teaching that it's okay to ask and accept help from others as well as sharing。 The illustrations are very colorful, and eye catching and help to tell the story by giving it a wonderful visual。 This amusing Halloween story is complete with a witch, ghost, vampire, mummy, and bat and is written with a nice rhyming pattern, making it a fun book to read to children。 Excellent book for teaching that it's okay to ask and accept help from others as well as sharing。 The illustrations are very colorful, and eye catching and help to tell the story by giving it a wonderful visual。 。。。more

This was my favorite story as a child around Halloween。 I remember my teachers reading it every year in elementary school。 Always such a fun book!

This book is enjoyable and is great to read aloud to the children。 I liked how all of the scary creatures helped on pulling the pumpkin and taught a lesson that working as a team can accomplish hard tasks。

A witch wants to make pumpkin pie。 So she plants a seed and takes care of the plant。 The day before Halloween she goes to pick the pumpkin。 The pumpkin is huge and she can’t move it。 One by one different Halloween characters offer to help。 They are each bigger and stronger than the last, but they individually can’t move the pumpkin。 Then a little bat comes up with a suggestion will it work?Tags: Witches -- Monsters -- Pumpkin -- Halloween -- Cooperativeness --

Great story, not good on the iPad with kindle appGreat story, but not good layout for the kindle app on an iPad。 Enjoyed the excellent illustrations and witty text to retell the classic tale of working together to pick a large pumpkin。

A classic。 The book is fun to read but the listen to the read along book on tape for the real experience。 A witch wants to make pumpkin pie on Halloween, but her pumpkin is too heavy to pull off the vine。 Other Halloween characters join her in trying, each thinking their size and strength will do the trick。 The group underestimates a small bat who hopes to show them that strength is helpful but not the most important skill。 Children ages 2-6 will especially enjoy this story。 It is also fun for c A classic。 The book is fun to read but the listen to the read along book on tape for the real experience。 A witch wants to make pumpkin pie on Halloween, but her pumpkin is too heavy to pull off the vine。 Other Halloween characters join her in trying, each thinking their size and strength will do the trick。 The group underestimates a small bat who hopes to show them that strength is helpful but not the most important skill。 Children ages 2-6 will especially enjoy this story。 It is also fun for children to reenact。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I remember getting this book from one of our Scholastic Book Fairs when I was in school。 It always brings lovely memories of those times when one of the best parts of school was when the Book Fair would arrive。 I knew I was a bookworm for SURE then。 Love that after everything, the end result is PIE! We love this Halloween book at our house。

I don't believe a ghost would be stronger than a witch。 They're not solid! And a mummy would be too brittle! I don't believe a ghost would be stronger than a witch。 They're not solid! And a mummy would be too brittle! 。。。more

Super cute。

The audio book is wonderful。 The kids at the playschool I worked at requested this book almost every day in October。 The teacher gave each of them rubber finger puppets of one of the characters to hold during the book and she had lots of actions to go with this story。

Very awesome book! Students really got into this especially right before Halloween。

Good lesson in working together。 Perfect for the child who loves all things Halloween。 Artwork is kind-of scary, but that's what Halloween's about, right? Cute story, nice cadence in the writing, nice repetition for an early reader。

A Halloween version of the fable about the giant turnip, and how the littlest member of the group is able to identify collaboration as the solution to a problem。 When I look at it that way, I like it even a bit more。 LOL! My first graders asked slyly for reassurance that this is indeed fiction, and that the characters, a witch, a ghost, a vampire, and a mummy (a girl mummy? Can that be?) are pretend, but they enjoyed it just the same。

A witch plants a pumpkin seed that grows into the biggest pumpkin ever。 When she tries to remove it from the vine to make a pie, she can't move it。 This tale of repetition explores the use of cooperation, and how it makes some tasks much easier to accomplish。 A witch plants a pumpkin seed that grows into the biggest pumpkin ever。 When she tries to remove it from the vine to make a pie, she can't move it。 This tale of repetition explores the use of cooperation, and how it makes some tasks much easier to accomplish。 。。。more

The big pumpkin by Erica Silverman, published in 1992。 This is a great book to read aloud with some lights on to enjoy the colorful illustrations。 It’s a short story with colorful illustrations that can be read in one sitting, the kids will love it, as will the adults。 What’s better than a witch, ghost, vampire, mummy and a bat all in one book, and don’t forget a big pumpkin too! Fun read。

Rebekah

Definetly cute。 Like how there are different Halloween characters in it。

I really liked this book, it is very Halloweeny。 The colors are nice and the story is original。 It's about a witch that grew a pumpkin to make pumpkin pie for Halloween。 The pumpkin is too big and she needs help from her friends to bring it home。 I really liked this book, it is very Halloweeny。 The colors are nice and the story is original。 It's about a witch that grew a pumpkin to make pumpkin pie for Halloween。 The pumpkin is too big and she needs help from her friends to bring it home。 。。。more
